DAVIDSON COUNTY EVICTIONS

The Good News

  • The Judges appear to be more attentive to the plight of tenants in housing court.
  • The opposing attorneys are cooperating more with PATHE to make arrangements that are everyones best interest in evictions court.
  • There now exist an Eviction Right to Council (ERTC) which is providing a great deal more advocacy for tenants both in and out the courtroom.
  • There have been substantial funds available to assist with paying rent in the rears for tenants
  • PATHE has launched a displacement/rental assistance fund to help tenants through the winter months and holiday season remain housed.

The Bad News

  • The funds used to assist in paying back rent are much limited presently some organizations are out altogether.
  • There have been tenants served and had all their personal belongings set out by mistake.  The WRIT is now filled automatically.
  • There appears to be significant continuous charge of mangers in apartments complexes which is creating rental issues for some residents
  • The  county continues to loose section 8 housing as the cost of rent continues to rise.
  • There are virtually no improvements on basic requirements as the rent increases in most apartments.

The PATHE Displacement Fund

PATHE has seen a real need to reestablish its displacement fund for those we serve, the housing insecure. There are wrongful evictions taking place, resulting in the loss of all one’s personal belongings being set out in the street. There is an extraordinary level of turnover in office management in many complexes which is wreaking havoc for many tenants. The most disturbing trend is rent continues to increase while little to no changes are being made to create a better quality of that same housing. Some of the most fundamental of services are being neglected.

Tenants are being broken, we see their mental and physical health is being compromised.  The children in these homes cannot learn with multiple moves in one school year. Is time for we the community to step up and bring real pressure to bare. Until then please donate to PATHE and help keep a roof over tenants heads as we enter into the holiday season and the winter weather season.  Right now so much of rental assistance is restricted to a COVID which does not apply to many evictions.

PATHE also plans to provide very basic money management in many apartment complexes. It is sometimes important to meet people where they are to help them to access your services. The hope is this can kind of financial literacy can begin to bring the eviction numbers down,
